Badal seeks central package for police modernisation
New Delhi, May 20 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here, seeking a Rs 120 crore special package for modernising the state police to combat terrorism and Naxalism.
Badal called on Chidambaram here at the latter's office and sought a special package "to maintain law and order situation on the one hand and to combat any exigency arising out of the threat perceptions posed by Naxals and terror," a release from the Chief Minister's office said.
He sought Chidambaram's personal intervention for releasing the funds and apprised him of the law and order situation in the state.
Badal told the Union Home Minister that though Punjab was not affected by Naxal violence so far, some frontal outfits of Left extremists were now active, posing a great threat to the congenial atmosphere in the state.
