Rs 2,857cr in Budget to modernise police

The Delhi police has been allocated more than Rs 2,800 crores in the Interim Budget 2009-10 to upgrade technical instrumentation and development of modern communication network in the city.
Keeping in view the need to develop modern communication network in the wake of Commonwealth Games, a planned alloca tion of Rs 25 crores has been made for the upgradation and expansion of communication infrastructure in the city. The funds will also be utilised to improve of training in Delhi police.
In the wake of recent Mumbai terror attacks, the police will also be spending a large chunk of the allocated Rs 2857.53 crores for the induction of latest technology. “We are planning to purchase state-of-art gadgetry that is used by the police force in developed nations. The allocations are certainly a step in that directions,” a senior police official said. The funds will also be utilised for the streamlining of traffic system in Delhi in the view of the Commonwealth Games.
“We have started the traffic system modernisation under ‘intelligent traffic system’. The allocations made in the Budget will help complete the process in time,” the official said.
