USD 2.6 million police modernisation plan underway in Indian state of Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has formulated a two-year police modernisation plan involving a expenditure of Rs 13 crore. This includes training, capacity building and procurement of modern equipments, state police chief G S Gill said today.
Out of the USD 2.6 million sanctioned, work worth USD 2.4 million is under implementation, of which USD 1.2 million has already been spent, Gill told PTI. He said efforts were on to link all 114 police stations of the state with the state police headquarters through Internet for speedy communication link. The main focus of the department would be on quick response system, prompt mobilisation of the force, procurment of quick bomb disposal equipments and providing of bullet-proof jackets, he said.
The HP DGP said six IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion) have already been sanctioned to the hill state and recruitment to this would start early next year. He said there are 2,800 vacancies in the police force at different ranks and the process to fill them was on.
State government has also proposed national security guards for the state under the national security plan which was discussed in the recently held chief ministers’ conference in Delhi, Gill added.
